CUTTING SHEET®, which was born half a century ago as a new color material, is now used in a wide variety of scenes, including signs, displays, show windows, interior decorations, and temporary construction fencing, thanks to its ease of use and as a design material that allows creators to freely give shape to their creativity. Although it took some time for CUTTING SHEET® to become popular due to its newness when it was first introduced, the high economic growth period and the CI boom have helped to expand awareness of CUTTING SHEET® by offering value and significance to the world that sets it apart from conventional paints.
Exploring the True Potential of Materials
We define the creation of attractive urban landscapes and spatial designs through cutting and applying CUTTING SHEET® as “CS Design. Through this concept, we have continually reexamined the true value of this material. CUTTING SHEET® is not only a design material, but also a material that plays an important role in the cityscape. In the process of popularizing the product, we have been earnestly worrying about "color pollution" as the product is cut and applied into the world in an unregulated manner. This coincidentally coincided with the thoughts of our founder, Yukiya Nakagawa, who put his belief in "contributing to the world with color" into the development of CUTTING SHEET®.
Reimagining the Possibilities of Color
In parallel with the challenge of promoting CS design, Nakagawa Chemical has been engaged in research and development of colors for comfortable images, pleasant environments, and satisfying atmospheres, as we are responsible for handling "color" in the eyes of consumers. After many years of work with the Japan Color Research Institute, we have completed the NOCS color system, which is unique to Japan. This activity was a major achievement, and the NOCS color system of more than 3,000 colors suitable for color planning is strongly based on all Nakagawa Chemical products today.
Coloring the Future — What Only We Can Do
In our pursuit of preserving the lasting value of CUTTING SHEET®, we have continually explored what we can do—and what only we can do. As part of this effort, in 1982 we launched the first CS Design Award under the direction of Masaru Katsumi, to promote outstanding and inspiring designs using decorative films. This initiative continues to this day. In 2007, we opened the CS Design Center, a showroom designed to serve as a concierge for CS Design, where visitors can see, touch, and experience our products. Nakagawa Chemical will continue to take on the challenge of enriching the world—and the future—through color, design, and materials.
Our Philosophy
To nurture individuals who create value for society through our business.
People gather to form organizations, and organizations also nurture people. Every organization is a collection of the wills of many people. What one person cannot do alone can be realized by the organization. We believe that organizations are indispensable for expanding human potential and that organizational management is crucial.
Our Mission
Bringing color to human spaces.
We place value on inspiring spatial design that energizes society, and contribute to society through its realization.
Our materials, technologies, and information enable inspiring spatial design and further expand its possibilities.
Our customers, suppliers, and all stakeholders are partners in realizing inspiring spatial design, working together to create value.
Our goal is for more people to benefit from the value of inspiring spatial design.
Nakagawa Chemical has been promoting initiatives to enhance spatial design under the business mission of "continuing to provide relief, excitement, and dreams through color, design, materials, and technology." As Nakagawa Chemical moves into a new era and welcomes new talent, we marked our 45th anniversary in 2020 by setting a goal of a “second founding.” To continue contributing to society, we recognized the need to clearly define and share guiding principles that serve as the foundation for the actions of both our organization and each individual employee.
Our new mission is a more concrete version of our existing one, based on a reexamination of our mission and what we truly want to be. It defines the value our business provides, our connection with society, and our relationship with our stakeholders., By returning to our mission at any time, we will guide our business in the right direction.
With our new mission, we will continue to promote business that contributes more to society.
